(UPDATED ) AFTER FMGE: INTERNSHIP IN INDIA

It is compulsory for Indian Foriegn Medical Graduates  from Post-soviet countries like Armenia, Georgia , Ukraine , etc , Russia and few others to do Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship in MCI recognised hospitals or medical colleges in India. Only after that, you will be issued Permanent Registration Number. Those who have completed in China (some universities ) , Philipines ( not sure ? ) and few other countries, need not do any kind of internship here.

It usually contains 12 months of posting in various departments ,

2 months  - medicine , including 15 days in Psychiatry

2 months - Surgery , including 15 days in Anaesthesiology

2 months - OBG, including Family Welfare planning (not sure what it is )

2 months - Community Medicine

1 month -   Orthopaedics including PMR

1 month -  Pediatrics

15 days -  ENT

15 days  - Opthalmology

15 days - Casualty 

15 days - elective subject

Elective subjects may be radiodiagnosis/ Dermatology/Forensic Medicine/Blood Bank / 

In this blog , I am going to cover , doing CRRI in TamilNadu. I lack few key informations, which I am not aware of , at the present moment. Those informations will be updated and informed , once I get enough Information.  

Regarding Provisional Certificate in TNMC - 

HOSPITALS TO DO INTERNSHIP IN TAMILNADU : 

The following PDF list is a old one from MCI for internships to do in Non-teaching hospitals , which wasnt updated, since like stone ages may be. But still this is more of like the same now too. 

List of Internship Hospitals 

So, in short, the whole internship hospitals can be divided into three sectors based on different type of work to do for each one.

1) Government  and Private Medical Colleges (you might not find in the above list, because, that list is for non-teaching medical colleges)

2) Private Hospitals

3) District Headquarters Hospitals .

There are some hospitals in the list, like Government Mental Hospital , Govt, opth Hospital, for which we are not sure of , whether it is possible to do all the postings.

1) Government and Private Medical Colleges :

This includes all the 25 Government medical colleges ,like Stanley Medical College , Madras medical college , Madurai Medical Colleges etc ., and Private Medical Colleges like PSG medical college, etc . Most of the Medical Colleges are affliated under TamilNadu MGR university. 

 Indira Gandhi Medical College and  Research Institute (IGMC & RI ), Pondicherry is affliated to Pondicherry University. 

So inorder to do CRRI in the particular "Medical College Hospital", know which University is it affliated to . You have to get NOC from that particular University. 

For example, if you want to do in "Stanley Medical College" in chennai , you have to get NOC from TamilNadu MGR University, (For which you have to pay Rs. 3,00,000 (3 lakhs ))

(updated info) IGMCRI, PONDICHERRY is affliated to Pondicherry University. But they take interns without the NOC of pondicherry university.  

Most of the private medical colleges are under TamilNadu MGR university ( awaiting Information )

Chidambaram Raja Muthaiah CLG is under Annamalai University. (Which is govt aided / but no need to get NOC from Tamilnadu mgr University )

STEPS : 

After Getting Provisional Certificate , 

For all the "Government Medical Colleges" in TamilNadu which is affiliated to TamilNadu MGR university,  according to  the Government Order (G. O. ) , you will have to pay Rs. 2 Lakh for NOC from the concerned Medical College(+hospital Development fees (not sure how much is that) + miscellaneous + blahblah expense(dont ask what is it,you know Indian way of doing things, which may even go upto lakhs , depending upon the college) )

Then for TamilNadu MGR University , you have to pay 3 lakhs for NOC and Rs . 3000/. as processing fees. ( effective from 3rd April 2017 )

So, Legally, you have to pay 3+2 = 5 lakhs + miscellaneous expenses .

Then , after that you have to submit the NOCs to the TNMC and then to the DME . (which will be updated on the further posts )

Update : only 11 govt medical colleges are available to do crri as of 02/08/2019 

So, these are the following steps to do CRRI in TamilNadu 

1) TamilNadu Medical Council (TNMC) for provisional Certificate - 

2) TamilNadu MGR university  - NOC 

3) DME - to get Permission. 

(awaiting More information on this - will be updated once we get enough Information )

IRT  Perundurai - you need to have influence to get internship here ( as far as I know, awaiting information)

Private Colleges :

A) CMC,vellore - 

          Inorder to do CMC vellore, You had to do 3 months observership, write an exam , give an interview, and provide recommendations from 2 of your teachers from university. We will get stipend. They dont ask any money but the procedure is same as above for Govt. Medical Clgs except 

a) they have to select you

b) you dont have to pay 2 lakhs for the clg 

c) you have to pay only 3 lakhs for Tamilnadu Mgr University.

They provide accomadation in the campus and food may be available at canteen.
Work timings are hectic for Medicine , Surgery and OBG.
Interns taken twice a year with exam and interview following that day . There will be 60 - 80 questions asked from medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obg. The interview will be conducted by senior medical officers or PGs , who asks questions from the above mentioned subjects. They might ask from out of the subject like orthopaedics ( kinds of fracture- colles fracture ,etc )
Try calling ug principals office  of cmc or someone who is doing internship there for more information

B) all other Private Medical colleges -
Raja Muthaiah medical college , Annamalai University -  It would take some time for them to actually consider the documents we have provided. Present status - as far as now , one of my colleague had applied there . But they justsaid process takes a long time. I will post the updates later.



Ramchandra University (autonomous ) - not allowing . Try if you can

All other private medical colleges , I think better not waste time there .

2) Private Hospitals :

There are private hospitals , which is a multispeciality hospital, not a part of a private college, not affliated to any universities or department . Eg .,

Madurai Meenakshi Mission Hospital - ( Limited seats , you can get NOC from here before getting Provisional itself (with the photocopy of NBE marksheet ), then get in the provisional certificate, that you are doing internship in Madurai Meenakshi Mission Hospital.  You will have to pay Rs.3,00,000 + 24,000(for hostel ) and you will be given Rs.8000 as stipend(updated on sep 2019)
 Interns taken all over the year. ) This will be amended from Jan 2020. Please confirm with the HR office. 

Sri Ramakrishna Hospital - ( Limited seats , first come first serve basis, you can register before hand in waiting list. But waiting list doesnt matter. Those who come first with provisional , gets internship Rs.3,00,000- should be paid , and we might get around Rs.13,000 as stipend each month. Interns taken twice a year.)

Apollo Hospital , Greams road, Chennai - (Limited seats , first come , first serve basis, taken all over the year )

Malar Fortis , Chennai  (Limited seats , only few postings are available, please ask )

MIOT  Hospital , chennai  -Miot said 3seats with 30000 stipend and the seats were filled by first come first serve basis in jan first week with no interviews or any kind of pay - getting internship here is difficult, but you can try. 

K. G. Hospital , coimbatore -Rs.3,00,000 now should be paid  ( Limited seats, only few posting may be available, other postings may be done in Apollo hospital, Chennai . Please enquire about it before joining )

St. Joseph Hospital, Dindigul - (only 2 interns per year (?)  Based on interview (?) ( information awaited)

Sundaram Medical Foundation , Chennai - (only few postings are here )

Usually it starts on June. Interview will be on may. Community medicine posting wont be in Sundaram Medical Foundation, for which you might approach omaiyal aachi community medical center )

Child Jesus Hospital , Trichy - few interns every year. ( Whole internship available/ community medicine (?) Alone (not sure- enquire in administration )  )

E.S.I Hospital , Madras - (as far as I have heard. No one is doing there/ they are not allowing interns.. Awaiting further information)

Railway Hospital , Madurai - Status is that they said us, that we (FMGS ) cant do in Madurai. only those who studied in India, may be given internship . (something of this kind ). If some has influence in Railways, you can try here too.

3) DISTRICT HEADQUARTERS HOSPITALS :

Present status : we had to approach DMS office in Chennai with a written letter , they will send the file to Secretariat for approval . The secretariat will issue a g.o. regarding your joining to DMS , Joint director of your required hospital and you with the specifics of joining. You might need to pay RS. 2 lakh in hospital . ( Not anywhere else ) ( Not a clear image below ) - you might approach Kadaloor Gh for more informations. There are three places for internship - Erode , Kancheepuram and Kadalur. Pollachi Gh is under consideration for internship too ( updated sep 2020 ) 

To apply for district headquarters hospital , after getting temporary provisional certificate from

 tnmc ( Link) , We have to meet the concerned Joint Director or Medical Superintendent of the Hospital and give a written requestion letter to join in the hospital with necessary documents( photocopies ) . They will give NOC with time duration . We should then apply for a permanent provisional certificate with that NOC . We should then to go to DMS in Chennai and give a request letter with NOC , permanent provisional certificate and other necessary documents and submit in “Thabal section “ . ( Usually Only when 10 such requests comes, the file will move towards secretariat ). The file will then be passed on to Secretariat where the health secretary approves it and issues an G.O. Regarding your internship and would be forwarded to Joint Director /Medical Superintendent of the concerned hospital. 

INDIRa Gandhi General Hospital , Pondicherry :

The hospital , which is not connected to any of the medical colleges, and therefore not affliated to any of the Universities. (Updated : have to pay 3 lakhs for internship and ?no stipend )As far as I have heard ,Interns taken all over the year. Female interns might get room in the hostel ( based on vacancy ). Work will be hectic here. But you have to complete Community Medicine Posting from some other place. Some places which give Community Medicine posting are as follows :

1) Ommayal Achi Community Health Centre , Arrakkambakkam, Tamil Nadu - usually we dont get community medicine post easily , as seats are limited and they would have been booked already. If you are lucky, you might get here.it is said that only from Sundaram foundation , they accept interns

2) Apollo Hospital (Arakonda  ) for which you have to contact Apollo greamsroad hospital.

3) Indira Gandhi medical college - inorder to do here, you have to pay Rs. 3 lakh (updated )pd Medical college and do Community medicine alone . Difference is that, you get here fast . Medical college is said to have fewer patients than GH. Its your choice to do your entire internship in Medical College or just do community medicine alone and then join in GH. But before that make sure that, if you do community medicine , you will surely get to do remaining internship in pondy GH.

4) Any private Hospital which allows only to do Community Medicine.  If you go for some Medical Colleges in TamilNadu, then you will have to pay that 3 lakhs again. So check for some private hospitals in and around TamilNadu to do community Medicine. (doesnt matter wherever you do , GH accepts it )

5) JIPMER , Pondy has stopped taking community medicine postings alone. (This is the present status, it may change )

JIPMER , Pondicherry doesnt intake any outside interns from outside, based on their latest update.

P.s.

The problem now is that , It was just 60-80k rupees for Govt Medical Colleges . But in 2014, they increased the amount from 20k to 2 lakhs for NOC in Govt. medical college and in 2017 they increased 40k to 3 lakhs for NOC in TN MGR university. Its not like this in other states. And it is not just for us. The Students , those who study in private universities are also finding it difficult to go to Govt. medical college for better practice during internship. Similar amount had to be paid by them. 

So, we cannot do anything at the present moment. We will have to wait to do something.

Updated info : Now they had also made availability of seats less ,to do internship in Tamilnadu government medical colleges ( 7 of them I suppose )
